Adriana Günzel

From the 31st of March until the 5th of April the second Spring School of the Virtual Worlds project will take place in Bonn. Students and teachers from the University of Oslo, Amsterdam and Bonn as well as the Open Universiteit will attend. The aim of this years Spring School is for the students to learn and practice different methods of 3D documentation.

On Tuesday the students will get a general introduction to the project Virtual Worlds in Teaching Archaeology and the different techniques of 3D documentation. Furthermore, they will experience VR environments from Amsterdam, Bonn and Oslo which are being currently developed. In a World Café they will share and discuss their previous experience with and expectations of 3D models and VR environments. In the afternoon the participants of the Spring School will visit the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn, where they will be given guided tours through the current exhibition, followed by a get-together.

On Wednesday the students will participate in 3D recording sessions in various venues in and around Bonn, which they decided on the day before. One group will work in the Georgskapelle on the Alte Friedhof, which is a Romanic chapel with Early Gotic elements, that was translocated to its current location in the 19th century. Two groups will work in the Academic Art Museum of the University of Bonn, where objects from Classical Antiquity are being exhibited. The fourth group will document contexts at the Museum Römervilla in Ahrweiler.

The collected data will be processed on Thursday and presented to the other groups on Friday. The Spring School will finish on Friday evening with a joint dinner.
