From the 1st to the 6th of April 2024 the first Spring School of the Virtual Worlds project will take place in Amsterdam in which students and teachers from the Universities of Amsterdam, Bonn and Oslo as well as the Open Universiteit will participate. The aim of the Spring School is to involve students into the process of designing learning scenarios and thereby get insights into their needs and wishes in the teaching of archaeological subjects using 3D models and virtual reality.
In an initial phase, the students will get the chance to experience augmented and virtual reality in the Allard Pierson Museum, created in co-operation with the 4D Research Lab of the University of Amsterdam, and in 3D environments, created by the Bonn Center for Digital Humanities. Furthermore, they will be introduced to the concept of seamless learning and the ABC method for designing learning activities. Subsequently, the teachers will present learning scenarios, they are currently working on, to the students. Based on the predefined learning objectives the students will co-design and develop the scenarios in small international groups. Finally, they will be presented to the other participants of the Spring School and discussed.
